When it comes to nightlife, you really can’t beat gay Berlin. Whatever your preferred queer crowd, music style or fetish, the German capital has it covered. Indeed, if you can’t find it in Berlin, you won’t find it anywhere else. The city’s hedonistic edge means there's non-stop nightlife, perfect for Berlin’s open-minded and diverse population.
As the city is sprawling, the best gay bars and clubs in Berlin aren’t found in one particular neighborhood. In fact, most areas of Berlin have strong queer communities, meaning gay nightlife in Berlin is spread across the city.
Gay Schöneberg
Schöneberg is the traditional heart of gay life in Berlin. The area around Nollendorfplatz has been a center of LGBT life since the 1920s and remains a queer hub.
Gay bars and clubs in Schöneberg tend to be more old-skool, serving the more 'mainstream' LGBT community. Within walking distance you can find cruising, bear and regular bars such as Tom’s Bar, Prinzknecht and Mutschmann’s.
Gay Kreuzberg and Neukölln
On the flipside, Kreuzberg and now-hip neighbor Neukölln are the center of alternative gay Berlin. Südblock and Möbel-Olfe both attract a mixed, open-minded queer crowd, as does the super kitsch late-night Roses bar.
Club-wise, SchwuZ hosts numerous parties during the week, while the monthly CockTail d’Amore is one of the best Berlin clubs going: just get there early or be prepared to wait in line!
Gay Friedrichshain
However, the ultimate gay Berlin party lies in Friedrichshain. If you’re a house and techno fan, then Berghain and its upper floor, Panorama Bar, should be top of your party pecking order.
The club’s debauched and decadent space (darkrooms included) attracts a polysexual crowd of club kids, fashionistas, gay guys, fetish freaks and everyone in between. The downside? Berghain has a very selective entry policy. Be prepared to queue for up to two hours and then be turned away. Ouch!
Gay Mitte and Prenzlauer Berg
Often attracting a more trendy cocktail-drinking kind of crowd is Mitte and Prenzlauer Berg. The Coven is a sleek and sexy afterwork drinking joint, while the drag shows and themed nights at Betty F*** regular pack this small basement bar.
