There is a good fish and chip shop on the Esplanade in Mudjimba and High Tide (open Wed – Sun from 7am) is nice for breakfast and lunch.
Mooloolaba surf club has a good view and reasonably priced bistro type meals.
The Wharf Precint has recently had an overhaul and now has a lot of new restaurants.
Rice boi and See Restaurant have good reputations.
Ocean St has a number of good restaurants. Machu Pichu is great for share plates of South American food and pitchers of sangria. Tome are only open during the day, but they make amazing cakes if you are celebrating (or just want cake!) The street is closed off for a night market from 5 – 9pm on the first Friday of every month.
Bars & Pubs:
Ocean St, Brisbane Rd Mooloolaba and The Wharf are the three main areas to go out on this part of the coast. There isn’t much on the northern side of the river until you get to Noosa.
Solbar on Ocean St is your best chance for visiting live music. If a gig is sold out online, they always keep a few tickets for door sales but you have to get there early. Peak Bar and Alchemy are nice for cocktails and tapas.
Taps on Brisbane Rd has great craft beer and local live music on the weekends. They have self service beer taps (in addition to a normal bar) that allow you to pour as much or as little as you like of each of their beers.
Black Flag on Brisbane Rd is a bit further back from the beach and is a favourite. It has a beer garden feel (with swings!) and pool tables and locally brewed beer.
Boston Shaker around in the wharf is a little cocktail bar with a Melbourne sort of feel.
For very late nights, your options are Old Sol in Ocean St, Helm Nightclub upstairs from the Wharf Tavern in Mooloolaba, and O’Malleys Irish Pub down the other end of the esplanade. There are also taxi ranks out the front of each of them should you take a look and change your mind!
In addition to taxis, Uber and Didi operate on the Sunshine Coast.
The cost is approximately $15 to the airport, $20 to Ocean St, $30 to Mooloolaba Esplanade, $70 to Australia Zoo.
For travel to/from Brisbane Airport, Connexion buses offer door to door services that are $50 one way. If you are driving from/to Brisbane Airport, be aware that there is a lot of late afternoon traffic headed to the coast and early morning traffic headed to Brisbane on weekdays.
Age Requirement: Min Age to book is 25 years old and above
