About the Place Initially in English, this text was translated via a machine translation service and may contain inaccuracies or errors.
A quaint town house sitting alongside the River Aude in the Occitanie region of France. Located 55mm from the Medieval city of Carcasonne, 1 hr 15mins from the Mediterranean Sea and 35 minutes to the nearest ski resort, we have the best of all worlds.
The house is not fancy. It is an 800 year old house that we have to treat with kid gloves. The rooms throughout the house vary in appearance with the kitchen and reception rooms being great dinner party spaces. The bedrooms are comfortable and large. The back bedrooms all face the beautiful river Aude, with its fresh trout and wildlife making a stunning view from the windows. We have three bathrooms, two with showers and one with a bath - which will be upgraded at some point as they are very basic.
There is a small riverside terrace which is a beautiful place for two people to sit, relax and allow the world to pass by.
We are served by three airports, Toulouse (1hr 35mins), Perpignan (1hr 10 mins) and Carcasonne (55mins). For other international travellers Barcelona airport is just a 3hr 15min drive away.
Our property is situated in a natural beauty spot, ideal for hiking, cycling, white water rafting, hydro boarding, paragliding, to name but a few things.
We are served by a regular bus service from Carcasonne and also Perpignan and from 2024 the train from
Carcasonne will be back in operation.
There are various markets in and around the Quillan area, notably the Monday Market in Mirepoix and the Sunday Market in Esperaza - both places in reasonable travelling distance of Quillan.
Throughout the summer there are various festivals taking place for free in the town, commencing on the 13th July with our Bastille Day Commemorations.
For a small town like Quillan, there really is so much to do.
There are various vineyards around to visit and also vineyards that produce the local sparkling wine known as Blanquette de Limoux. Blanquette (as we call it locally) is the original forerunner to Champagne- legend has it that a Monk called Dom Perignon was brewing the sparkling wine in the Abbey of St Hilaire and stoke the recipe and idea and went up to Reims and started making Champagne with the original Blanquette method.
The area is also famous for the Cathars and the Mystery of Rennes La Chateau if you like a bit of intriguing history.

Please respect the fact that this is an 800 year old house so can be a little rickety in places, with sloping floors and odd walls in places. Our house is priced cheap to reflect the fact that you will not be staying in a palace, but that does not mean we don’t want you to treat it like a palace.
Dogs are allowed (at a €30 surcharge) but should not be left in the property alone.
Please respect our neighbours and try not to make too much noise. Some of our neighbours are very old.
We understand that sometimes accidents happen, we ask that you report them asap.
Otherwise, we want you to enjoy your stay in this ancient house in the picturesque Pyrenees.
