About the Place Initially in English, this text was translated via a machine translation service and may contain inaccuracies or errors.
A dream for sun worshippers, families and walkers, Coombe Bank sits minutes from Teignmouth’s Back Beach. A contemporary gem with a period twist, this beautifully refurbished apartment used to be the bar and restaurant of the former Coombe Bank hotel and comfortably sleeps four people in two bedrooms, with ample parking. Just footsteps from the beach, spend your days paddleboarding, walking the coastal path or exploring the English Riviera before retreating for a glass of something chilled on the sunny terrace. In winter months, snuggle up on the sumptuous sofa for a cosy night in. There’s plenty to do without needing to drive anywhere. Whether it’s dips at dawn or exploring Teignmouth’s trendy arts quarter, this is the Devon homestay you’ll be returning to again and again. We are afraid no pets are welcome.
Light, bright, and decorated in calming coastal tones from mermaid teal to thrift sea pink, Coombe Bank is an oasis at any time of year. Revel in the delights of seaside living, from relaxed mornings sipping coffee in the outdoor lounge area and sunbathing on the terrace to lazy family barbecues in the south-facing garden, where you can catch the sun’s rays well into the evening.
Inside, Coombe Bank is a peaceful sanctuary. The large, airy space is perfect for entertaining, from its fun dry bar in the sitting room to its double fridge in the fully equipped, slick and modern kitchen-diner – perfect for stocking up on those al fresco drinks and family feasts. When the sun’s not shining, the sitting room is kitted out with a smart TV and kids’ games and books to keep the whole family entertained.
Two airy bedrooms epitomise seaside chic and promise slumberous nights in perfect comfort. The pretty master bedroom boasts a king-size bed, while the charming second bedroom comprises a cosy double. The sitting room also offers plenty of space for an additional bed, should you have a larger family or group of friends. A pristine family bathroom with a double shower cubicle is the perfect place to rinse away the salt after a blissful day at the beach.
Coombe Bank offers easy seaside living, whether you’re playing in the sea or dozing with your toes in the sand. However tempting it is to stay put, explore the pretty, family-friendly town of Teignmouth with its Victorian pier and a wealth of south Devon harbours, villages, and attractions.
Fresh Escapes will provide check-in details around 4pm, two days before your arrival date. There is off-road parking for two vehicles, and guests have access to the private courtyard garden.
Teignmouth’s charming Back Beach is located on the estuary side of the town and has spectacular views looking towards Dartmoor, particularly at sunrise and sunset. Splash in the sea, go rock pooling or have a go at one of the many water sports on offer. Don’t forget, Coombe Bank has two paddleboards available exclusively for your use to get to know the area by water. You could also hire a boat for the day or take the small ferry across to Teignmouth’s hidden gem, Shaldon Beach. It’s just a hop, skip and a jump from Coombe Bank into Teignmouth – a lovely quaint old seaside town which boasts a beautiful long promenade and pier. The seafront also has a children’s play area, a skate park, a miniature golf course and a heated lido. The trendy art quarter is well worth a visit for a treasure trove of independent shops, galleries, cafes, restaurants, and pubs.
Teignmouth is also the gateway to a host of activities and places to explore for all ages. Sat on the edge of Dartmoor National Park, a wealth of hiking and exploration opportunities await. Secure the dogs on their leads to run wild where moorland sprawls and rivers flow. Haldon Forest Park offers a fantastic opportunity for natural cycling. Situated just outside Exeter, the trails give beautiful views back across the city and the surrounding countryside. After all that, find your way back to Coombe Bank to relax on the terrace or head to our favourite, Crabshack On The Beach, for incredibly fresh seafood in laid-back surroundings.
If you are arriving by train, Coombe Bank is a 14-minute walk from Teignmouth train station, with direct services from London. There are good local rail and bus links to Plymouth, Exeter, and across the English Riviera (Torquay, Paignton, Brixham, and more)
If you are arriving by car from the north or east: once you get to Exeter, take the M5 until it turns into the A380 Devon Expressway (in the direction of Plymouth). Stay on this road, and where it splits, take the left-hand fork to stay on the A380, which is signposted to Teignmouth. Follow the road towards the Town Centre and the A379. Go past the Tesco Express fuel station and take the fourth right onto Coombe Vale Road. Keep to the left at the fork in the road to continue along Coombe Vale Road. Drive 0.2m and take the first right onto Landscore Road. After 55 yards, the entrance to Coombe Bank's driveway is on the right.
By car, you have excellent access to Dartmoor National Park, just a 25-minute drive away. Please borrow our guidebooks to plan your exploration of this stunning area.
If you want to keep your walking more local, head either way along the South-West coast path – a favourite of ours is heading over to Shaldon and beyond to Maidencombe, a lovely, sheltered cove. The path is dotted with a number of great spots for a swim and some lovely pubs to stop for refreshments.
There is parking for four cars outside the property, as well as a bus stop. Teignmouth railway station is a 10-minute walk.
It’s easy to get around Teignmouth. Leave the car and amble into town. The number 2 or 22 bus will take you to Teignmouth railway station, where you can take the Riviera Line, which connects to Exeter and calls at seaside beauty spots Dawlish and onwards to the glorious English Riviera. A ferry leaves from Back Beach every 20 minutes to Shaldon Beach.
