Montpellier is the second most gay-friendly city in France after Paris, and has become a popular gay destination for locals and travelers alike! It has all the benefits of an urban city but has maintained the relaxed pace of Mediterranean life.
Living a gay life in Montpellier is rather easy, with a very open population and optimal living conditions. With a large student population, Montpellier is a young and dynamic city with concerts, festivals, and busy parties. Gay Montpellier also attracts many travelers, especially during the summer season. Montpellier’s gay district is located around the Place du Marché aux Fleurs, in the historic center. But there’s plenty happening in other neighboring streets. Place de la Comedie and Place Saint-Anne are very busy during summer, thanks to a wealth of bars that spill out onto sun-drenched terraces.
Expect some gay parties outside of the city. Drive south to find the very active gay beaches, the Espiguette - next to Grau du Roi, or le Grand Trravers - next to la Grande Motte.
The Lesbian & Gay Pride in June is the city’s main gay event, attracting huge crowds for the second biggest pride event in France after Paris.
