About the Place Initially in English, this text was translated via a machine translation service and may contain inaccuracies or errors.
There’s a house in Florida where history meets the paranormal and where its eerie elegance makes for a comfortable, yet creepy stay. That place is Phantom History House, where everyone is welcome to leave the chaos of their daily life outside our front door.
Your hosts, Steve Blanchard and Tim Hinton, have opened their unique home to all guests, but particularly those who are fond of the paranormal, the strange and the odd. Are you looking for a stay that is as comfortable as it is unique? Then you’ve found your final resting place – for your upcoming trip.
Dracula. Hamlet. A long list of fairy tales. They all have one thing in common – a ghost or paranormal presence lurking in the historic ruins and dark corners of an iconic castle.
While, admittedly, Phantom History House is not a castle, you can feel like you’re within a castle’s bedchamber by booking a one-of-a-kind stay in the castle room, which features a medieval tapestry, bed hangings across a Queen size bed and a candelabra complete with (electric) candles that you can control by remote!
While this is the smallest room in Phantom History House, it just as elegant as the rest and has a phenomenal private bathroom with a breathtaking stone wall in the shower that transports you to another time and place, but with modern conveniences.
The comfortable bed gives you a great view of “Ghost Descending the Staircase at Raynham Hall, Norfolk, England,” the classic photograph that graced the pages of LIFE Magazine. It’s a photo that many say is proof of spirits walking among us, especially in historic locations.
During the day the Castle Room is bright with Florida sunshine shining in from two windows that offer a view of our quiet street. At night, the room gets dark, and the flickering flames of candlelight around the room may just convince you that you that the shadows are more than just natural phenomena.
Whether or not you believe in the paranormal, this atmospheric room will inspire you to disconnect from the modern world and enjoy your stay as the King or Queen you are!

Do you want to explore Tampa Bay? Then you’ve found a great, centralized location!
Florida is known for its theme parks and beaches and Phantom History House is within a 30-minute drive of both. The spectacular Busch Gardens Tampa Bay is just across town and the beautiful beaches of Dunedin are less than 10 miles from our front door. It’s a setting perfect for a uniquely paranormal-themed getaway in one of Florida’s most beautiful and active cities.
Do you want to explore Gay Tampa Bay? Then you’ve found the right place.
Phantom History House may seem removed from the hustle and bustle because it’s tucked away in such a quiet neighborhood, but this centralized location is less than 30 minutes from Ybor City, Tampa’s historic district with several clubs catering to the LGBTQ+ community, including Bradley’s on 7th, Southern Nights and the more chilled Ybor Wine Bar.
The Pro Shop Pub in Clearwater is Tampa Bay’s oldest and longest-running nightclub and is 13 miles away and just minutes from the beautiful beaches of Florida’s west coast. Also nearby are Hamburger Mary’s and Quench Lounge, two popular clubs in Clearwater that feature theme nights and popular drag shows.
If you’re visiting in March or June, be sure to plan a visit to the area’s two largest Pride events, Tampa Pride and St. Pete Pride. Both organizations are growing and celebrate the LGBTQ+ community of the region and the state!
If you’re interested in more mainstream activities that are friendly toward LGBTQs, then check out the Oxford Exchange in downtown Tampa with a trendy restaurant, bookshop, coffee-house, and shop, or Armature Works along Tampa’s waterfront, where young professionals hang out, play and enjoy a variety of food offerings near downtown. We also encourage you to check out the Tampa Museum of Art, which often has LGBTQ-inclusive exhibits and hosts the annual Pride & Passion event each spring.
