Puerto Rico is THE LGBTQ capital of the Caribbean, and San Juan is the gay capital of Puerto Rico. Featuring more than 20 gay venues, from hole-in-the-wall bars, to gay saunas, to large gay nightclubs, Puerto Rico is seeing a resurgence in GAY. Here, we all say GAY proudly. . It is the only island with multiple annual prides (San Juan, Cabo Rojo, and Ponce), and it has the most LGBTQ-owned businesses and the most options for nightlife and restaurants. Same-Sex Marriage is legal as is adoption. I never feel uncomfortable walking hand in hand in San Juan.
Ocean Park has historically been a very LGBTQ-friendly area, and there is a new renaissance of gayness in the air, with more businesses opening.
We have a detailed and updated guide available for the LGBTQ offerings in the area. And we actively support the community. We are a member of IGLTA, plus an annual supporter of GLAAD auction. We also host several themed events during the year, such as a Gay Naked Weekend coinciding with Gay Pride in San Juan (first weekend of June annually), and our Winter Pride Fest (4 days LGBTQ first weekend in December).
Here you will feel more like a local. You will experience a local taste of Puerto Rico staying with us, while still being within easy distance to the more popular tourist areas of Isla Verde and Condado, or Old San Juan. Ocean Park beach is the local's favorite (a 3-minute walk), and the small bistros and bars in the neighborhood are frequented mostly by the Puerto Rican community while warmly welcoming tourists. A new gay bar, the Bitch, just recently opened featuring drag shows, food and cocktails.
