Experience the very essence of coastal living in this stunning fisherman’s cottage sat directly on the beach. Waking up to a breath-taking sunrise over an uninterrupted view of this very special part of the Kent coastline, will no doubt set the scene for a truly memorable stay.
Sitting at the ‘beach-end’ of a row of historic cottages, the view from the White House has barely changed in over 150 years. All that lies between you and the sea is protected land where wild flowers grow in amongst the pebbles. With panoramic views across to France and to the start of the White Cliffs, this place is pure tonic for the soul.
With its spectacular wild coastline, set within a conservation area, together with an authentic community spirit, Kingsdown is a truly unique place to immerse yourself in laid-back coastal living.
Inside:
With an effortless Scandi-Chic feel, there's a real tranquillity to the White House. Cool, calm whites and soft blues combine with natural materials and hardwoods to create a stylish light-filled, yet cosy space. After a day’s exploring, light the wood-burner, put on a vinyl and relax in the lounge with a drink in-hand and a smile on your face!
The abundance of local Kentish food and drink sold in an array of independent retailers in the local area is likely to encourage creativity in the open-plan kitchen and dining room. It will be easy to spend many hours around the table in this beautifully designed and decorated space.
A sea-air infused restful slumber is assured in any of the comfy beds scattered with fluffy pillows and soft throws, set against a backdrop of soothing coastal tones. The main bedroom offers uninterrupted sea-views from a king-size bed where natural materials and original features maintain a timeless and tranquil environment from which to watch the world go-by.
The Garden:
A thoughtfully landscaped garden complete with mature shrubs will offer you a private sun-trap for those bright, warm days where you can gather around the bespoke stone table or a place to star-gaze on a crisp, clear nights.
On the Doorstep:
For the outdoor enthusiast, there’s an array of activities on offer from wild swimming (whatever the season!), prawning, fishing, sea-kayaking, beachcombing and kite-flying (or kite/wind-surfing for the initiated!)…and for those less inclined, there’s always the popular Zetland Arms (a very short walk) at the end of the road offering fresh fish and other local fare.
Whether you turn ‘right or left’ from the White House, you’ll be immediately aware of the beauty and variety of flora and fauna; whether catching the scent of the sea fennel, noting the sway of wild flowers on the meadow, spotting a green woodpecker swooping down from its nest or watching flocks of oyster-catchers or cormorants gliding across the sea, it’s utterly restorative and nature at its absolute finest. Look closely and you may even spot a local seal or two!
Beyond the Doorstep:
This part of Kent’s coastline is blessed by having a beach-front path (especially good for walkers, leisurely cyclists and families with small children) that extends for several miles and takes in other coastal gems such as Walmer, Deal and Sandwich where you can enjoy an abundance of local shops, bars and restaurants. Golfers will be in their element with some exceptional links courses along this stretch and walkers and hikers will be delighted at such a convenient base to walk many stunning coastal paths or in-land circular routes in this counties’ self-proclaimed Garden of England.
For the cyclists, there are many wonderful, quiet routes that meander through some beautiful Kentish villages (often with an excellent pub for refuelling!) and there’s always Betteshanger Park offering various cycle trails and other outdoor activities.
If you’re hungry for some history, then a visit to the majestic castles in either Deal, Walmer or Dover should satisfy your appetite or even a visit to the famous Canterbury Cathedral.
France will also often seem to be within touching distance and is only a short journey away for a day-trip to the markets of Boulogne or the trendy Le Touquet.
Eating and Drinking:
This part of the Kent Coastline has become increasingly well-known for its vibrant food and drink scene. If cooking at home is your thing then you’ll be able to visit the various specialist independents in Deal (without going near a supermarket!) and produce a masterpiece (skills-allowing!) with the freshest of local produce.
If you’re looking for someone else to do the work, then you’ll be spoiled for choice too. Bistro-Pubs, classic French brasseries, authentic Italian eateries, wood-fired pizza joints and even a micro-pub are just some of the extensive options available.
