Marmari is located in southern Evoia and is built amphitheatrically on a beautiful bay just opposite and west of Rafina.
The wider area is rich in rocks and its inhabitants from the past years deal with the processing and extraction of marble and slate rocks and the extraction of the famous
Karystos plate. In winter it is a quiet fishing village, while in the summer it is a holiday resort with many accommodation (hotels, rooms to let) and restaurants (restaurants, fish taverns, ouzo).
Beaches:
►Megali Ammos is a reason for you to go to Marmari. A strip of white sand that enters the sea and changes morphology every year, depending on the weather. Since the '80s, French and German windsurfers have been discovered by the summer with caravans loaded with sails and boards. Now it has become a favourite beach for kitesurfers. Just make sure to keep an eye on children - the currents can get strong.
►Gianitsi (19 km from Marmari) is relatively remote and has beautiful waters.
►Agios Dimitrios (26 km from Marmari) has white pebbles and is also known for its blue and green waters.
►Potami (44 km from Marmari) is the longest beach of Cavo Doro, at the mouth of the Platanistos stream.
Sightseeing:
►Dive into the endless blue
Petalioi is an island complex opposite Marble. You have access only by boat or by excursion (tel. ********). It's a favorite place for diving and snorkeling. Megalo Petali and Mikro Petali were once linked with the bridge, you can see its traces on the seabed. Some of the islands are private, the Embiriko family and the Carnegie shipowner have properties here, while the Picasso family home now belongs to businessman David.
►Miracle of Dragons, Gods or Humans
The Dragon House of Ochi, at the top of Prophet Elias (1,398 m) is one of the megalithic buildings that are found in the south of Evia (5th century BC) and are made of large pieces of stone, without any other binders. It is believed to have been a sanctuary of Zeus and Hera, while mythology again says that the Dryopes who arrived here after their persecution from Central Greece by Hercules built them.
►In the paths of history
The Dimosari Gorge, on the NE side of Ochi, is one of the most beautiful hiking trails in Evia. Along the way, you come across with two small waterfalls - those who stand the cold water dive into their pedestals. The entrance of the gorge is located in the village of Mylos, and after about five hours you will go to the beach of Kalliani. It has fantastic waters, as well as strong currents - do not forget that you are in Cavo Doro. To return, you must have booked a taxi or leave your own vehicle there.
►Nostalgia in the battlements
Bourtzi is located on the beach of Karystos. It is a 13th century fortress, built by Venetians and Franks, and today houses cultural events. Between the villages of Myli and Grampia dominates the "Kokkinokastro", from the red stones used in its construction.
►Beauty from the bottom
At the Dykellas Diving Center (Karystos, tel. ********) you will organize organized diving in ancient Archambolis, with magnificent sea caves in red and purple color, due to the iron mounds that once existed there.
From Athens you will reach Marmari in two and a half hours. Calculate approximately € 25 for tolls and fuel. Alternatively, you can go to Marmari via Rafina by boat (30 euros for driver and car, 1 hour in duration) or via Agia Marina of Attica to Styra. The route to Marmari has bends, but great views. Cost: 19.20 Euro (driver and car for the boat).
