Looking for the best gay bars in New Orleans? You don’t have to go far to find a watering hole in the Big Easy. You might also be surprised to that on your way to one, you’ll see locals drinking their own concoctions in plastic cups on the street! That’s because the city lacks strict open container laws.
The coolest gay bars in New Orleans are sprinkled about the city, but the biggest concentration rests in the French Quarter. Here are a few of our top picks.
You can never go wrong with a drink on the pretty patio of Bourbon Pub and Parade, where you can sip your drinks and people watch the streets below. Another long-standing classic is Café Lafitte in Exile, supposed to be the oldest gay bar in New Orleans, where Tennessee Williams himself once used to drink.
Other great options with similar laid-back dive bar vibes are the 700 Club and the appropriately named Good Friends Bar. But, if you’re looking to really dance yourself clean, Oz is the number one gay club in New Orleans. The bar’s jam-packed dance floor always gets better as the night goes later.
If you’re more of a watcher, no problem. The Corner Pocket always has some of the hottest go-go boys dancing on the bar.
Alternative gay New Orleans
New Orleans used to have a much naughtier alternative scene, but it will still certainly get your blood pumping. Just outside the French Quarter, in Marigny, is the Phoenix Bar - a bear and leather bar open 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
Just above the bar is the Eagle, a much darker, cruisier space. Other great options for more alternative scenes are Rawhide 2010 and Big Daddy’s, but in New Orleans, it’s hard to go wrong.
