Fort Lauderdale has become one of the best gay destinations in Florida, consistently attracting an LGBTQ crowd throughout the year. And with its golden beaches, charming canals, and a large number of gay bars and clubs, we can completely understand.
As one of the gayest cities in the US, it comes as no surprise that Fort Lauderdale is LGBTQ-friendly and does not have a specifically designated gay district. That said, much gay-related life is centered around the Wilton Manors neighborhood. For many years, Wilton Manors has been a beacon for gay rights and LGBTQ progression in general. In 2000, the City of Wilton Manors made history by having the second gay-majority government body in the US.
In terms of the best gay bars in Fort Lauderdale, Monkey Business is a popular watering hole thanks to its cheap and large drinks. Otherwise, head to Alibi, which serves excellent cocktails and is even better during happy hour. For the best places to dance in town, you can’t beat Hunters. As well as offering a dance floor and top hits, you can also appreciate cabaret and karaoke here. For gay cruising in Fort Lauderdale, the best spots are 321 Slammer and The Club. It's always good not to drink on an empty stomach, though, so before starting happy hour, head to Lips for some entertaining drag dining.
Thanks to Fort Lauderdale’s coastal location, pristine beaches are a given. Sebastian Street Beach is one of the best gay beaches in Florida and is decked out in rainbow flags to make you feel right at home, close to some of Fort Lauderdale's best gay resorts. Umbrella and lounge rental is also available so you can put your feet up and people-watch for the afternoon.
