The gay beach of Grand Travers located between Carnon and La Grande Motte in the Hérault is a long and narrow stretch of sand that is very different from the concrete beaches of the region. The gays meet on the other side of the road and extend the swim in the dunes and pine forests. The summer nights are very hot.
The area has been completely redeveloped and renovated over the years and after the removal of the road through the Petit Travers forest the meetings have moved to the Lido de l'Or forest between Petit Travers and Grand Travers with access from the road between Petit Travers and Grand Travers. It is possible to park in front of or at the edge of the beach.
The beach is very popular all year round, especially on weekends, with gay people from Montpellier and passing gay tourists. Grand Travers beach is one of the most popular tourist attractions in the south. To get to the beach from La Grands Motte, take the Grand Travers exit at the traffic circle and park on the left.
