About Albuquerque Pride
Albuquerque Pride annually celebrates the LGBTQ+ community in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Its rich history began in 1976 when 25 pioneers initiated it to raise awareness and advocate for the LGBTQ+ community's rights following the Stonewall riots in New York.
Since its inception, gay pride in Albuquerque has grown steadily, attracting more and more participants and spectators each year. In 1977, over 100 people marched on the sidewalks for GLBT rights and rallied at Morningside Park. In the following years, the event moved to the Spanish Village at the New Mexico State Fairgrounds and then to Main Street on the Fairgrounds for its 25th anniversary in 2001. This year, Albuquerque Pride attracted over 5,000 people to its daylong event.
Albuquerque Pride has grown into one of New Mexico's most well-attended festivals, with over 30,000 people joining the fun over three days in 2008. The New Mexico Business Weekly newspaper has ranked it as the 9th most attended festival, the Alibi has awarded it the Best of Festival, and it stands as the state's 3rd largest parade.
More than just a party, Albuquerque Pride offers a welcoming place for LGBTQ+ folks to meet, be open, and learn about New Mexico's vibrant community. As part of InterPride, the global Pride network, it helps boost LGBTQ+ voices through learning, connecting, and standing up for their rights.
Albuquerque Pride aims to create a space for LGBTQ+ people to celebrate their identity and push for their rights and broader acceptance.
