With the unprecedented Coronavirus, Covid-19, shaking the world and causing more than 500 prides across the globe to be canceled, an international community of LGBTQ organizations and pride committees have joined forces to bring Global Pride 2020. The special event will comprise a 24-hour live stream, and take place on June 27, one day before the Stonewall anniversary. Operating under the appropriate maxim of "Exist. Persist. Resist" Global Pride will unite the global LGBTQ community for an incredible and unique celebration that will allow everyone to experience their pride, irrespective of age, gender, orientation, sex, or ethnicity.
Joining forces with the Black Lives Matter movement, and recently announcing a hosting collaboration with singer, songwriter, actor and director Todrick Hall, Global Pride will provide a momentous platform. A platform from which we can celebrate our achievements, honor those who came before us, and especially challenge the exisiting status quo concerning discrimination and equal rights in the world. As Project Manager of Global Pride, Patrick van der Pas, says:
“Attention for intersectionality and the most marginalized groups within our community has been the priority for Global Pride 2020 from the start. As an organization we hope that by our strengthened collaboration with the Black Lives Matter movement we press the urgent need for structural change.”
misterb&b is also very proud to partner with Global Pride, as it represents an opportunity for us to engage in an important moment and encourage everyone who is apart of our valued community to attend this special event. Kicking off with live streams in East Asia, Australia and New Zealand, and gradually moving through different time zones to the western United States, you will be able to stream Global Pride from Todrick Hall's YouTube channel on June 27, as well as on iHeartRadio’s YouTube channel and on the Global Pride website.
As well as representing an iconic Pride moment for 2020, you can also enjoy a star-studded line-up of special guest speakers and entertainers. Top guest speakers include Canadian Prime Minister, Justin Trudeau, US Vice President, Joe Biden, and the European Commissioner for Equality, Helena Dalli, just to name a few. Along with this, more than 20 different artists will illuminate our screens with much-anticipated performances, including Adam Lambert, Mel C, Calum Scott, and Conchita Wurst.
As has previously been demonstrated by our community 50 years ago during the Stonewall Riots, hardships we face only strengthen our pride and our resilience. This has been proven again through the immense commitment towards organizing Global Pride 2020. This concept could not be better summarized than by Executive Producer for Global Pride, Michelle Meow, who says:
"Fifty years ago, grassroots organizations came together to plan the first Gay Liberation Day that changed the world, including the Daughters of Bilitis, Gay Liberation Front, Mattachine Society and Lavender Menace. The production of Global Pride has been planned in the same grassroots manner, but with a 21st century technological twist. LGBTQIA+ people from around the world will come together virtually during this crisis of racial injustice and a pandemic.”
Be sure to tune into Global Pride on June 27, and get ready to experience your pride with the global LGBTQ community like never before. Details on the full schedule according to your time zone can be found here.
