Marseille is in turmoil. The city is already 2013 European Capital of Culture. It will also hosts the 20th Europride, July 10-20. And four months of the event, things are accelerating. 11 days of festivities promise their lots of (good) surprises. While the second version of the website for the event has just been released, here's a quick overview of what awaits you.
Organzers want to strike it hard on the very first day of the event : on July 10, 2013 gay couples from all around Europe will symbolically marry in the presence of local officials. This gathering is of course related to the next opening of marriage and adoption to same-sex couples in France. This celebration is to be held on the forecourt of MuCEUM (Museum of Civilization in Europe and the Mediterranean), before the opening concert, which also promises to be memorable. Electronic music and "club" culture will be honored here with famous artists and prestigious sponsors, still to be announced.
Clubbing
Several European party lines will gather at Europride Club in the heart of Docks des Suds. Here is the list of the parties announced to date: La Troya Ibiza Gay, Splash Roma, Rapido (Amsterdam), Matinee Group (Barcelona), Supermartxe (Madrid), Scream (Paris), la Leche, Beardrop (Paris), Delice Dream, Muccassassina (Roma), Dolly Party, WE Party, Rainbow Power (Nice) and Booster (London) .... What more can you expect!
More than 115 artists of all kinds are also planned. Among them, Boy George, Offer Nissim, Rossy de Palma, Rebekka Brown, Ben Manson, Paul Heron and many more ...
Culture and activism
The Europride will also be a time for LGBT activism and culture. Forty associations and organizations will be represented at the Europride Park. Among the conferences and debates already scheduled, "LGBT in the workplace," "LGBT and religion" LGBT rights in Europe" or "LGBT Marriage and Family". Exhibitions will also be installed in the village, including EXHIBITION, which will honor the expression of body art. Other exhibitions will take place in various galleries throughout the city.
Discovery and relaxation
The "Off" program of Europride will bring together over 200 venues identified by a sticker on their windows (and present in the official program). They will welcome you for dinner, shopping or dancing throughout the city. This is an opportunity to discover the neighborhoods of Marseilles, the shopping streets, the restaurants, the nearby creeks (so called « calanques ») ...
And because Marseille is a city by the sea, Europride will also have its own beach. Program: sports, fun and relaxation. Sports fields, fitness courses, water sports will make you move your pretty asses before sunbathing on mattresses on the Europride beach private space. The beach will also hosts the before parties.
Parade and closing
The Europride parade in 2013 will leave the Old Port on July 20, at 2PM, join the Plage du Prado aournd 6PM. Organizers expects 400,000 people on the 6 km route, with forty parade floats. The great closing concert will be given on the Prado beach. Again, expect a great show, with international artists, yet tba.
For now, you can go and visit the latest version of the Europride website as well as the Europride Club website to schedule your visit and your evenings. You can also keep up to date on facebook. An Europride app is soon to be released and the official program is to be published late March.
