With over 17 miles of coastline, gay San Diego has some of the best beaches in California. Mission, Coronado, and La Jolla beaches are some of the local favorites, but there's only one truly gay beach in San Diego – and it’s possibly the most famous gay beach on the West coast.
Black’s Beach, located near Torrey Pines State Reserve, is a stunning expanse of sand beneath dramatic seaside cliffs. The private and wild location makes the clothing-optional beach a wonderful day trip, but beware, there are no facilities. Come prepared with plenty of water, umbrellas, and a lunch if you plan to spend the whole day here.
To reach Black’s Beach, you must trek down a steep dirt hiking trail that descends from the Torrey Pines Glider Port just off 2800 Torrey Pines Scenic Drive. Once down, enjoy the aqua waters and warm Californian sun. Locals are friendly and respectful. Just remember that when it’s time to leave, you’ll have to hike the steep hike back up the hill!
