The House of Intellect - Outdoor Shower, Pool, Spa

The House of Intellect is a place to escape reality and contemplate your place in the universe. Where wonder meets magic, explore a space that inspires creation and stimulates outer and inner reflection. Located in the heart of the protected land of Monument Manor on 2.5 acres, there’s no better place to relax, recharge and re-center than in the darkest area of Joshua Tree, when the night sky really does come alive making it abundantly clear how small we truly are.
Featuring an open floor plan to encourage an open mind, this newly remodeled home is stylish, clean, and bright with a design that’s best described as a blend of Florence and Miami. It’s the quintessential desert getaway, blurring the lines between indoors and out with incredible floor-to-ceiling windows and sliding doors that provide a portal to the magnificent surroundings by day and reflect the surrounding beauty camouflaging the house’s very existence at night.

Designed like a duplex, each side of the house is symmetrical in layout creating two complimentary suites (a primary suite and a guest suite) while providing plenty of space for 2 couples or the whole family.

SLEEPING:
The primary suite features a King sized bed, en-suite full bathroom with a soaking tub, projector, Apple TV, wardrobe, and vintage organ.

The guest suite right off the kitchen. This suite includes a King sized bed, and a second full bathroom with a rain shower.

OUTDOORS:
Hike the spectacular rock sculpture more than 85 million years in the making and explore the sweeping desert views from different vantage points. Share a moment of gratitude for those who’ve "climbed the highest mountain (and run through the fields) - only to be with you.”

Jump in our huge pool in the hot, sunny weather. Then rinse off at the one-of-a-kind boulder shower with hot water temperature control. Later, relax your sore muscles in the hot tub while the sun sets behind the many mountain ranges beyond the horizon.

Connect with your inner philosopher and count the stars (you can try) at night while gathered around the fire pit as the moonlight softly illuminates the rock sculptures behind you like the perfect backdrop in a sci-fi film.

FEATURES:
The open kitchenette packs a punch of luxury convenience into a small, sleek space along with thoughtful storage for a clean, modern look. A gas cooktop stove, oven, Keurig, toaster oven, stainless steel fridge, BBQ just steps outside of the kitchen door and a sleek pony wall means you’re never far from the action no matter if you’re preparing for a family dinner or socializing with your friends and family in the living room area.

Stimulate your right brain by composing a tune or playing an old disco favorite on the organ, or exercise your left brain while analyzing an out-of-this-world movie on our projector.

BRAND NEW CONSTRUCTION:
The House of Intellect is under new ownership! Improvements and upgrades are being made: from the beds to the pool (seasonal) to the kitchen and everything in between! You will love the updates! Please note that the home has a different asthetic and design since we have yet to take new photos. We appreciate your understanding.

FAMILY:
We are family friendly! But no infants are allowed. Children 2 years old and above must be included as part of the total guest count. Please note that the house is NOT childproof (ie no outlet protectors, no gate to pool, etc). But the infants are allowed if the guests take full responsibility for them. Please see our House Rules for more information.

PETS:
Pets are accepted on a case by case basis and pet owners must agree to our pet rules before we can approve. Please send us the breed and age for consideration. We will request a $75 cleaning & companion fee per pet. Please see our House Rules for more information.

RESPECT:
PLEASE BE RESPECTFUL OF OUR NEIGHBORS! We are in a quiet, peaceful area of Joshua Tree. There are strict county ordinances regarding excessive noise and light pollution. Please respect our neighbors by following the county's Good Neighbor Policy and refrain from any loud outdoor noise or disturbances by 10pm. Failure to respect quiet hours or after an initial warning may result in cancellation of your reservation without refund.

NO OUTDOOR MUSIC:
Sound travels far in the desert. Take a moment to listen to how much you can hear! Guests must refrain from any outdoor music playing from amplifiers or bluetooth speakers at ANY time of day or other disruptions that may cause a disturbance to the community even outside of quiet hours. You may play music while in the house with the doors closed, but please only play music from your phone or computer at a low volume while outside. Thank you for being a good neighbor!

HOT TUB:
Our 4-person hot tub is set to 104 degrees.

OUTDOOR POOL & SHOWER: [POOL IS NOW AVAILABLE FOR SUMMER]
Our outdoor above-ground pool is filled and maintained for your enjoyment all year long. It is not heated, but there is an outdoor shower with water temperature controls right next to it making it the perfect spot for hot showers and cool dips. The pool is 4.5 feet deep and 15ft x 30ft wide. Please note there is a ladder and NO pool gate. We do our best to maintain the pool after every stay, but many small insects may try to take a drink and cool off in the desert heat. So do not be alarmed if you find bits of nature with you in the pool. As the pool is seasonal make sure to send us a message for confirmation.

AC/HEATING:
We have a split AC/heater unit in each suite.

WIFI:
We have the fastest wifi in the area (15mbps), but we do not guarantee these speeds at all hours of the day. We are in a remote area of Joshua Tree so speed depends on the neighborhood bandwidth, weather, and many other factors outside of our control.

PHOTOSHOOTS & VIDEOS:
If you’re interested in doing a photoshoot or shooting a video for commercial use, please let us know what it is for. You must get approval beforehand! If approved, we have an additional fee for licensing and usage.

WILDLIFE:
You’re surely guaranteed to encounter wildlife on your stay including families of Quail, coyotes, rabbits, rare Albino lizards, insects, snakes, and the endangered kangaroo mice.

NO SMOKING:
No smoking or burning candles. This is a non-smoking home. Any and all smoking should be kept outdoors and at least 15 feet away from any open exterior doors. There will be a $250 charge for anyone not honoring this guideline. PLEASE DO NOT LEAVE CIGARETTE BUTTS in the property.

CLEANING:
Health & safety is our number one priority. Our in-house cleaning team is trained on CDC and WHO protocols. We take extra measures to ensure the home is sanitized and safe before every arrival. For this reason we aren’t able to offer early check-ins or late check-outs. Thank you for understanding!

DEPOSIT OR WAIVER:
Our bookings are protected by SUPERHOG, our trust and safety partner. Guests must verify themselves through SUPERHOG after the booking is confirmed, which only takes less than a minute and is required prior to arrival. Guests will be asked to put down a refundable $500 deposit (minus a $15 processing fee) or a non-refundable $35 damage waiver that covers any damage up to $500. Guests will be contacted directly by SUPERHOG via text with a URL link to start the verification process.

CHECK-IN / CHECK-OUT:
Saturday check-ins and check-outs are not allowed. We may grant an exception to this for last-minute reservations.

LACK OF CELLULAR COVERAGE:
You will notice that cell service is hard to come by in our secluded desert setting. Don't worry—consider it an invitation to unplug and fully immerse yourself in the natural beauty around you. We recommend planning ahead to make the most of this serene escape from the digital world.
