John
In general, those choosing to be residents of our suites are here for work, study, health care delivery or treatment or to scout Victoria as a place to land long term. We see ourselves as ambassadors of this amazing part of Canada.
I speak very rusty French and Russian, but am willing to try! After living in Hong Kong and Bangkok for many years, my partner (of 26 years) and I are back in Canada, settled in beautiful Victoria BC. Please note: this profile ends with a reference to Victoria City Council's "month or more" requirement for neighbourhood short stays. We must comply.
After your Davie St. adventures in Vancouver, it is just 20 minutes by plane, or about 1.5 hours by ferry (plus driving each side) to Vancouver Island where Victoria is your base for exploring an island nearly as big as the UK with almost every climactic zone. Wineries, beaches, golf, ocean adventures and whale watching, mountain climbing and skiing, garden discoveries, galleries and heritage architecture are just a few of the activities available locally.
We're proud gay Dads--literally--and now grandads! We're not quite retired, with Rob continuing work in health care and John in both design and intellectual capital mapping, consulting and coaching seniors for success with Apple devices. We're both very involved in community building--in the thick of creating a neighbourhood woonerf! When schedules permit, we enjoy sharing conversation and a glass or two with visitors--and are always happy to provide insights and tips on the local area. Special interests? Just ask.
When traveling, Rob and I enjoy architecture, theatre, historic sites, gardens and a mix of good food and conversation. We are non-smokers (and market to travellers with allergies, so remind guests that no smoking of any substances is permitted and we are not able to accept pets).
Oaklands 8 is a one bedroom for up to 3 guests: one queen bed and one pull-out single) located adjacent to our home.
The nearby Oak Suite is a two bedroom + office for up to two couples (one Queen & one Double bed) perfect for friends traveling together. Residents are typically a couple travelling with a parent, or needing a work-at-home space.
The one (double) bedroom Pine Suite shares a common, no charge, laundry room with the Oak Suite above. It is a spacious ground level retreat.
The Salish Sea View is named for expansive winter views over the city toward the Olympic Mountains across the Salish Sea (aka Straits of Juan de Fuca). A house within a house, this two level (many steps) two-bedroom + large office suite occupies the upper levels of an Edwardian Manse.
The Parlour Suite occupies the entire main floor, offering two bedrooms with period touches.
Victoria City Council has decreed that accommodations in neighbourhoods are limited to "month or more" bookings. Shorter visits are available in specific zones, not residential neighbourhoods. Partiers will want those other zones, as keeping neighbourhoods open for stays requires respectful, friendly and quiet enjoyment of community. We greatly appreciate your cooperation.
Languages: English (some rusty French and Russian, & now forgotten Gondunghua) John parle un peu français et aussi un peu de la langue russe. Джон говорю немного по-французски, а также немношко русского языка.
