You'll be spoilt for choice when it comes to restaurants. I recommend the M'eating restaurant (Canteleu metro station) for Pierre's inexpensive, homemade dishes. You'll feel right at home there. The "Grand Scène" food court on rue de Béthune offers 10 street food stalls. The atmosphere is festive. For a taste of traditional (and hearty) Northern dishes, head to the city's most popular estaminet "Au Vieux de la Vieille". Make sure you book well in advance! If you're looking for a great evening out, try La Bonbonnière cabaret for a spectacular dinner. The food's great, too!
Have a drink at Gare Saint Sauveur Lille. It's a restored former railway station, open even on Sundays. For gay-friendly bars, there's Le Privilège (the best-known), Le Bayard (the friendliest) and Silom Bar (the newest).
For your shopping needs, a Casino Shop, open even on Sunday mornings, is just a stone's throw from the studio. It's also great to go on Sundays to the Wazemmes market, a Lille institution! You can buy food and relax with a drink in the cafés and bars around the square. It's my habit when I'm in Lille.
To stretch your legs, take a "V "lille" self-service bike below the building and head for La Citadelle, the city's largest green space, or the historic "Vieux-Lille" district (but watch out for the cobblestones!).
Finally, head for the Musée d'art et d'industrie "La Piscine" in Roubaix. The site alone (a former Art Deco swimming pool) is well worth the detour!
