Being on the edge of the Lake District National Park is amazing!
Two miles down the hill you’ll find Ullswater - often cited as England’s most beautiful lake. The first lakeside village you’ll come to is Pooley Bridge.
There are world class walks with stunning views in all directions as well as great cycling routes. There are plenty of activities in the immediate area including multiple castles and historic landmarks to visit, watersports or boat hire on the lake, Aira Force waterfall, various wildlife centres, or simply wandering around the pretty villages or finding country pubs. The area is extremely rich in things to do.
In the other direction it’s around 7 mins drive to Penrith, where you'll find a charming old market town to wander round, it's own castle, and an array of local shops.
It’s also a stop on the London to Glasgow mainline railway. London is only 3 hours away. Penrith has all the supermarkets and other key shops for any essentials you’ll need during your stay.
Tirril itself is a small pretty village famed for it's connection to William Wordsworth, who used to live here. In fact, his brother used to be landlord at the local pub The Queens Head Arms. (which is an excellent local pub!)
It’s a short drive in either direction to Pooley Bridge / Ullswater lake and to Penrith.
At the lake you can take the steamer to glenridding.
There are great places to cycle / mountain bike to.
Parking is available almost anywhere in the village but not directly outside the house - the alcove on corner just before to the house is fine though.
Also please don’t park outside the village hall.

No parties / events
Please be aware that the dogs are not allowed on the furniture or beds, upstairs or left in the house alone in the property for long periods of time.
Access is through the side gate and back door. Please keep both gates closed.
Wifi is surprisingly good considering the location. We’ve now had a really fast broadband connection put in and is fine for streaming, zoom/teams calls etc.
