Loft Borges

The Arenal neighborhood is one of the busiest and most visited by tourists who come to Seville. It is part of the Casco Antiguo district and is bounded by the Paseo de Colón and the streets of Adriano and Dos de Mayo. The famous Torre del Oro, the Maestranza bullring, the Postigo del Aceite or the Maestranza Theater are symbols of this emblematic neighborhood. The area also hosted a large part of the port activity, with its comings and goings of merchants, loaders, cartwrights, sailors and ship's masters, as the medieval building of the Atarazanas, where the ships leaving from Seville were repaired and built, is located in the immediate vicinity. The Arenal also holds other great treasures, such as the Maestranza de Artillería, the church of San Jorge or the Hospital de la Caridad, a jewel of the Sevillian Baroque that preserves works by Murillo and Zurbarán. Or the Naves del Barranco, an iron building designed by Eiffel. The Casa de Contratación de Indias was also in this neighborhood from its construction in 1503 until its later transfer to the Alcázar and, curiously, the place where the old Customs House once stood is now occupied by a building of the Treasury Department. In Seville, and until 1894, there were more than twenty Gates. Of the three that remain, one is the Postigo del Aceite, at the end of Dos de Mayo Street.
