The Anchorage is a perfect seaside retreat, less than a minute's walk from the pebble shoreline of Walmer Beach and with the historic town of Deal just a half mile stroll away.
Set on the quaint York Road in the Walmer Conservation Area and parallel to the parade of local shops on The Strand, The Anchorage was originally a fisherman's cottage built in the mid 19th Century.
THE BEDROOMS
The master bedroom features a king size Hypnos pocket sprung mattress and an en-suite cloakroom. The generously sized second bedroom features two single beds with pocket sprung mattresses for more flexible accommodation.
The bedrooms are both located on the first floor and the stairs are fairly narrow, so do bear this in mind if you have mobility issues.
THE KITCHEN, BATHROOM AND LAUNDRY
There is a well equipped kitchen including a full size dishwasher, small integrated fridge, microwave, gas hob, electric oven, water filter and all the things you will need to make your stay enjoyable. The brighand contemporary downstairs shower room is newly fitted with quality Hans Grohe fittings.
DINING AND LIVING SPACES
The dining room features a locally-made table built from reclaimed Victorian pine floorboards and seating for six. The living room has comfortable sofas and features some mid-century design classic furniture.
Music fans are well catered for with Alexa Smart Speakers which use our fast fibre BT WiFi. Signal boosters give a good spread of internet coverage both in the upstairs bedrooms and the downstairs living areas.
We can't always guarantee there will be sunshine outside for you to enjoy, so there is a TV with BT TV and Netflix so you can catch up on your favourite shows or movies, a selection of board games and an eclectic choice of books for you to browse and inspire.
THE OUTSIDE SPACE
Outside there is a fully enclosed garden complete with table and chairs and which is a real sun-trap - perfect for entertaining outdoors or simply for relaxing with a drink of the local wine or ale.
THE ENVIRONMENT
We love the world around us and want to make every effort to look after it so we have a strong green focus. We recycle as much as we can and encourage our guests to do the same. Where possible, we have installed A – rated appliances and energy saving LED lighting. We use renewable energy sources from our utility provider. Whilst we’re just yards away from the sea, we try to conserve water as much as we can. We use rainwater from the water butt in the courtyard for watering the garden.
Our housekeeping staff use the Koh cleaning system from Australia which is safe for people, pets and the planet and is certified Organic. Our amenity kits are produced nearby in the Romney Marsh in Kent, reducing their carbon footprint and they are also free of parabens.
We try to use natural and sustainable products and fabrics wherever possible and are continually looking into ways to improve our green credentials. The coffee beans we sourced are Freetrade and freshly ground by us. They are sealed in fully compostable bags which will degrade within 60 days so they can be disposed of in your food waste container.

It is an ideal location being just minutes from the beach, Walmer Green, shops, cafés, pubs, lovely parks, castles... The town of Deal is only 10-15 minutes walk away from the front door.
As we all know, the world has been going through some unprecedented times recently. As life is slowly returning to 'normal' I am looking forward to being able to welcome you back to The Anchorage Walmer.
Walmer Green and Walmer beach - both almost on the doorstep - are great places to exercise. It is a great way to get away from the hustle and bustle of the city and I like to think that The Anchorage Walmer provides a calming space to be.
In light of the recent crisis, while some businesses have reopened many of the local restaurants are now providing a take away service so you can still sample the local cuisines whilst still supporting our hard working local businesses if you don't fancy cooking. These have been difficult times for us all and by helping to support local businesses you are helping the local community.
WHY IT'S UNIQUE
The neighbourhood and town is extremely welcoming to people of all ages and backgrounds and is very LGBTQ+ friendly. There is no shortage of things to do at all times of the year and all hours of the day (or night!) We are blessed with a stunning coastline, fabulous walks, cycle routes, driving roads, cafes, bars and restaurants and shopping facilities that there is something to offer everyone.
On a clear day, you can see France which is only about 18 miles away and the proximity to the Port of Dover or the Eurotunnel in Folkestone means it's an easy journey to make a day trip across the Channel.
MY OWN VIEW
On a personal level, I have been completely seduced by the area. I didn't grow up here but was made to feel so welcomed into the community when I first visited that I kept coming back and couldn't get it out of my system so I bought a property here. I am always making new local discoveries and am constantly surprised by how much this little area of magic has to offer its residents and visitors alike.
