About the Place

"FarisForest" site is a Homesteading farm and we're told time and again a magical get away :) We're located on a 3 acre homestead in an O'hia permaculture food forest on the Big Island of Hawai'i. Conveniently secluded in the center of the Puna Triangle (Mountain View / Volcano National Parks to the NW, Historic Pahoa town to all of the Puna coast to the SE, and Kea'au / Hilo the the NE) in a peaceful Ohi'a forest. Our Homestead is thriving on 100's of plant varieties from exotic fruits like Cacao and Pineapple, to dozens of orchid varieties lovingly placed around for surprise and other tropical flora thoughtfully given to the land. We have worked hand-in-hand with nature to create a biophilic experience in hopes of offering our guests an eco-inspirational and energizing retreat. More details about our endeavor can be found at our FarisForest online site.

All 1st world amenities (hot water, full kitchen, open living space for persona leisure) are in our shared commons space, the first floor of our main building, which we reside above. As we are 100% off grid we turn down our commons from 10pm -7am which is still accessible. Please let us know if you have special requests for things like internet use and we'll assure to keep them on for your requested time. Private quest quarters are on separate off-gird systems so plea know you have essential power needs, but we ask to please use energy awarness as you are 100% off-grid, which means high draw items like Irons or convection devices are not allowed.

In the case of an emergency we have back-up batteries for personal travel use. Please know you are visiting the side of an active volcano, in the tropics so weather and environment can fluctuate without notice. We encourage all guests to purchase traveler's insurance, while we know no-one who has had to use it, we want our guests to have the best experience possible so this may help with any claim through MisterB&B especially if you are traveling in our rainy season (Typically November to March).

Please know we are a working homestead and in booking with us you understand that the topography of our land is as Pele made it. This adds to our unique flora and ecological landscape, but with this warning please watch your step and make sure you understand your physical abilities as there are lava vents, and uneven ground as elevation changes. Paths are set with easy access to and from the commons which we orient all guests with. But by making a request to book you understand all these cautions in advance and take upon your own liability in visiting our working homestead.

We have super friendly dogs, cats, chickens, a parrot and many goats on our property, and we ask that you do not try to pick-up any animals (I know it's a strange rule but people have). Please do not feed the animals as well as some diets are dangerous for animals for example certain foods can cause bloat to goats, or some human foods can kill birds or dogs. We had one guest who was feeding grapes to our dog, as they didn't have dogs they just didn't know, understandably, but this is why we must post this here).

We appreciate your interest and hope to share more of our homestead upon your visit. You can always find us online at our FarisForest site :)

Mahalo for your kokua on your visit to Hawai'i !

I had a wonderful week staying in a cabin near the main house. Patrick and Brian are the kindest hosts and a fount of knowledge on plants, Hawaiian history and culture and places to visit. The dogs, goat and other animals are equally friendly and you feel part of nature in the forest. You really need a car as it’s quite tucked away, but it’s easy to access t...Read more

Brian and Patrick are cute as a button and very accommodating! I slept in a little cabin next to their main house, while the kitchen of the latter served as a community room. I loved their place with their very cute and gentle dogs, goats and other animals, but you should be aware that they are indeed cuddly and clingy. :) Also you should note that the road ...Read more
