If you don't feel like driving around looking for other shores, in Portoscuso you will find stupendous beaches and cliffs where you can sunbathe in peace, but the area is also the ideal starting point to enjoy the wonderful beaches of southern Sardinia such as those, for example, of Sant'Antioco, Calasetta Carloforte (which has the ferry embarkation in the town), the more fashionable and equipped eastern beaches such as Chia, Tuerredda and Cala Cipolla or, to the west, the immense, reserved and unspoiled beaches of the Costa Verde where there is also the immense beach of Piscinas, which hosts, for the many admirers of the genre, the largest nudist beach in Europe.
For those who want to learn about the history and culture of Sulcis, Carbonia is home to the Villa Sulcis mining museum, the Great Mine of Serbariu, the archaeological site of Monte Sirai , the Nuraghe Sirai and the Paleoenvironmental Museum.
