About the Place Initially in English, this text was translated via a machine translation service and may contain inaccuracies or errors.
Sammy, the resident Labrador, Tony and Paul will welcome you to Marlpits Lodge. The core of the house dates from the 1700s with additions made in every century since. Though the look is quaint, cozy and bucolic, it has been updated to 21st century standards.
Outside the sitting room is a stone terrace to sit and read, enjoy the quiet and the 2/3-acre garden (some of which is Sammy’s, but he’s happy to share – especially if you throw the ball once or twice).
There are two bedrooms available: one bedroom has a King size (US Queen size) bed with an en-suite bathroom with shower. The other bedroom has a double bed and an adjacent private toilet with bath and shower. Both rooms are comfortably appointed with quality towels and linens, coffee and tea facilities, WIFI, USB charging ports, and hair dryers.
Included British/American style Cooked Breakfast is offered between 8:30 and 10:00, cold breakfast is available from 6:30 am.
Almost every day we have tea and cake at 4. Why not join us?
We will be happy to do a load of laundry for a nominal charge and can store small amounts of your food in the refrigerator, if necessary.
If your interest is principally walking, we can pick you up from Bexhill-on-Sea, or Battle rail station. There is also ample off-road parking.
We are the only LGBTQ owned/run acommodation in the area.

Nearby Attractions Initially in English, this text was translated via a machine translation service and may contain inaccuracies or errors.
The Lodge is located in the heart of rural East Sussex. There are two pubs within easy walking distance; one a traditional English pub with good “pub grub”, local ales, and a surprisingly generous selection of Scotch Whiskeys. The other has a more upscale "gastro-pub" menu. There are also a myriad of pubs and restaurants within a few minutes’ drive. We will be happy to direct you and offer recommemdations depending on your tastes.
The area is renowned for the abundance of trails and walks. A major right-of-way is accessible directly from the garden and connects with a number of other walks including the “1066 Trail”. With the abundant woodlands, pastures and nearby seashore, anyone interested in birds, plants and animals will be delighted by the variety to be found here. The impressive Seven Sisters walk which goes along the imposing white chalk cliffs (part of the 100 mile South Downs Trail) is only a 20-minute drive away.
There are 5 major historical sites within a 10-minute drive from the Lodge. The town of Battle is 3 miles, or a 1 hour walk away with a delightful assortment of buildings dating from the middle ages with an eclectic collection of shops, cafes and restaurants. It is also the site of the Battle of Hastings and the striking Battle Abbey, built on the orders of William the Conqueror.
Other impressive attractions include the Herstmonceaux Castle and Science Centre (the former site of the Royal Observatory), Pevensey castle (a Roman/Norman fortress), Hastings Castle, and Bodiam Castle.
There are also a number of interesting towns and villages to explore: Rye (the setting for "Mapp and Lucia” and other period films and TV programmes), Bexhill-on-sea, St. Leonards-on-sea and, of course, Hastings with it's chariming old town (the setting of “Foyle’s War”) each with a variety historical sites, shops and restaurants.
Brighton is 31.6miles or a short train ride away.
But best of all is sitting in the garden with a cup of tea and a cake and enjoying the quiet country sites and sounds.
Of course, if you have any questions please get in touch.
