misterb&b Introduces Silver Pride!

Since 1969, Pride has been the annual communion that brings the LGBTQ+ community together to celebrate our differences and pay tribute to those who fought for our rights and visibility. Still, despite all the recent efforts at inclusivity, one part of the LGBTQ+ community remains de facto overlooked in today's gay pride parades: the LGBTQ+ senior generation, our pioneers. Every year, pride marches bring together millions of people worldwide. But the conditions in which they occur can become an increasingly insurmountable obstacle for senior citizens: very long walks, packed crowds, extreme heat, very high noise levels, etc.

To make this year's Gay Pride more inclusive than ever, misterb&b presents Silver Pride in partnership with the non-profit organization Les Audacieuses et Les Audacieux, which fights for the well-being of LGBTQ+ seniors without family support in France.

Silver Pride will take place in several cities in the US and in Europe, including Paris. We will provide misterb&b listings along the routes of the gay pride parades and bring together isolated LGBTQ+ seniors for a friendly gathering where they can once again enjoy gay pride - which they thought they'd have to miss out on - from balconies and windows. In a symbolic move, we have redesigned the Progress Pride Flag to include a new color: silver, a symbol of the senior generation and a tribute to their activism.

LGBTQ+ seniors: a generation challenged by loneliness and isolation

LGBTQ+ seniors suffer from severe social isolation. 65% live alone, 90% are without children and other family caregivers, and their suicide rate is between 2 and 7 times higher than among the heterosexual population. Les Audacieuses et Les Audacieux, misterb&b's partner organization, has set itself the challenge of breaking this isolation with cultural events, group activities, debates, and digital workshops to recreate and maintain social links.

Les Audacieuses et les Audacieux are also behind the Maison de la Diversité project, which misterb&b has supported since inception: a participative, inclusive, and transgenerational housing project designed for the older members of the LGBTQ+ community (but open to all) and designed to help LGBTQ+ seniors age better, without discrimination.

"We share the same DNA with them, providing accommodation for safety and connection, and so we decided early on to support them financially and operationally," says Matthieu Jost, co-founder of misterb&b. "We're very proud to have been part of their success, with the first Maison de la Diversité scheduled to open in Lyon in 2024."
