Buchan's Beach is a suburb of the City of Cairns, Queensland, Australia. The gay-friendly beach is located in the far north of the city, about 16 kilometers (10 miles) from the central business district, in between Ellis Beach and Palm Cove. The suburb is situated on the coast, with Buchan's Beach itself being a popular spot for swimming, surfing, and other beach activities. It also tends to attract an LGBTQ+ crowd.
The gay-friendly beach is known for its golden sand and clear blue water, and it is backed by a grassy foreshore with plenty of shade. It is also locally known as the "nudie beach" so you are more than free to roam free, and drop more than just your towel for the day here. With the warm weather and clear waters, this clothing-optional gay-friendly beach is definitely one to visit if you're up north in Queensland.
Access to Buchan's Beach is simple, and it is best reached by car. As you are driving on the highway north from Cairns, you go through various suburbs getting to Clifton Beach then Palm Cove. The road turns sharply left and about 200 meters further on there is a carpark on the right-hand side, that’s it. Once you have parked walk to the right and the further you go the more gay it gets. There is a gay cruising area on Buchan's Beach, which is amongst the rocks.
